TESA kick-starts sporting careers
21 April 2010

Dubai, UAE, 21st April 2010 - Young hopefuls sign up for TESA open day - success rate of Transguard sporting academy testimony to high calibre training and contacts with top clubs

In what is sure to be a first for the UAE, Dubai-born Moroccan brothers Yousef and Saleem Bouvezgui are both to trial with English Championship side Gillingham FC, having been hand-picked by visiting Gills Chairman Paul Scully.

Scully had flown to Dubai to visit Transguard Elite Sporting Academy (TESA) which is based at the Repton School in Nad Al Sheba, Dubai and was so impressed with the brothers he invited them both to train with Gillingham's youth team over the summer.

"Saleem and Yousef have impressed Paul Scully so much that he has invited them both to Gillingham FC where his coaching staff will assess their potential," said TESA director John Mamea-Wilson.

In addition, a further six children from the Transguard Elite Sporting Academy (TESA) have been chosen to go for trials at Newcastle United, who have secured their return to the English Premiership after spending one season in the Championship. These include 10-year-old Charlie Abbott, who has previously spent time at the Everton Academy.

The six boys going to Newcastle United FC are also products of the Repton School-based sports academy and will be under the watchful eye of former England star turned Newcastle Academy Director Peter Beardsley as they undertake a week's trial at the club.

"These boys will have an experience they will never forget. The set up at Newcastle is world class. We are extremely proud to have nurtured such talent and it is a real testament to the high level of technical coaching that TESA students receive. We have every confidence that they will impress the coaching staff at St. James' Park," added Mamea-Wilson.

Carlton Palmer, former Sheffield Wednesday and England midfielder and TESA's head football coach, added: "We have some very talented kids here at TESA and it's great to be able to reward them with the trip to Newcastle, traditionally one of England's top clubs, so it's an exciting time for everybody involved."

This is not the first time TESA has offered its players the opportunity to trial for British clubs. Last November, through Everton player Tim Cahill, 10 children were invited to spend one week training at the Everton academy, rounding off the experience by attending the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton at Goodison Park.

"It was great having the children come over to Everton, I was proud to show them around the club and the training facilities. They got a firsthand look at a premier league club setup and everything that's needed to be a good professional" said Cahill.

But it's not just TESA's football recruits who have caught the eye of some of Britain's top clubs; three of its rugby players have been for trials with Sale, London Wasps and Northampton.

Duncan Yates, 17, Danny Tusitala, 17 and 18-year-old Johnny Luteru enjoyed time trialling and being coached by the likes of former England rugby union and league legend Jason Robinson.

Following the tremendous success TESA has had of late, it will begin its new summer intake with an open day this Friday (23 April) from 10am featuring fun games, skill tests and an introductory session by the coaches.

"We are looking forward to this term and developing further the existing students and welcoming new students into TESA" said Mamea-Wilson. "The open day is a great opportunity for boys and girls of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to come and experience what we have to offer both through our coaching and the pathways into professionalism we are able to provide."
