Transguard Group in 'slumdog' initiative Dubai, UAE, 28th April 2010 - Dubai-based Transguard Group is offering students from a school for underprivileged children in Bangalore, India the chance to forge successful careers within the company through an in-house vocational training scheme. Four students a year from Christel House will be brought to Dubai and employed across different departments within Transguard. The training scheme is aimed at academically talented students who choose to go straight into work after leaving school rather than pursue further education. The trainees will be provided with a full-time salary, company accommodation and a structured training and mentoring programme, with the first four due to arrive at the end of this school year. Mike McGeever, Managing Director, Transguard Group, said "While living in the UAE it is easy to take a good education and career opportunities for granted but the situation is very different for thousands of children in India. The work Christel House does is invaluable, not only providing its students with a first class education, but also giving them a real chance to break the cycle of poverty. We believe it is important to support such a great cause in any way we can. "For a school leaver, moving from Bangalore to Dubai and starting a new life in a new country is going to be a major milestone in their lives and a great adventure. It will also give them a fantastic opportunity to build a career in one of the most dynamic business environments in the world," he added. Transguard has been involved with Christel House for the past three years, and continues to sponsor a classroom, providing some 30 children with an education until they reach 18. The initiative covers every aspect of the child's schooling, including uniforms, three meals a day, transport, books and health and welfare programmes. The company also provides funds that contribute to teachers' wages and the upkeep of the school. "The value of a good education cannot be underestimated and a sponsorship programme like this means the children and their families do not have to worry whether they will be able to attend the school in the years to come, we even support the school through staff salaries and property maintenance." said McGeever. Meanwhile, six of Christel House's top footballers will be making their way to Dubai next month to complete a placement at the Transguard Elite Sports Academy (TESA). The 10 and 11th grade youngsters, chosen from a group of 30, will be put through their paces by TESA's former professionals-turned coaches, including ex Sheffield Wednesday and England star Carlton Palmer. "The opportunities given to our students by Transguard are truly life changing. Christel House is all about providing opportunities to children who would not otherwise be able to afford an education and support of this nature is vital to the future of the school. We hope these are the first of many students to benefit from the schemes and go on to have long and successful careers," said Raju Shahani, Chairman of the Christel House India Board. |
